The wind arrives in June

The southeast trade winds arrive in Rodrigues in June. The lagoon turns green. You'll want to be there for it.

Rodrigues lies a short flight east of Mauritius. It is smaller, quieter and slower. Fishermen work the lagoon at low tide. Octopus dries on lines in the sun.

In the cool months the wind is the main event. Kitesurfers read it the way farmers read rain. Walkers use it too, because a breeze on the ridge makes a long climb easier.

Port Mathurin is the capital, and it is small. The Saturday market starts early. Go before the heat, and buy fruit and chillies you can carry home.

Rodrigues suits couples and families who want to do less, not more. Stays are guesthouses and small hotels, not large resorts. Three or four nights alongside a stay in Mauritius is enough to feel the place.

Flights are limited, so dates need fixing early. Tell us when you want to travel and we will check what is available.
